Why Choose Dr. Agha
Welcome to The Aesthetic Centers, a practice created by Dr. Siamak Agha, MD PhD FACS, focusing on extreme makeovers, body contouring, and body lift surgery.
Dr. Agha, a graduate of the world-renown Cambridge University Medical School, completed a 6-year residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, before joining the creator of the total body lift, Dr. Dennis Hurwitz, for several years. During his time, Dr. Agha perfected the art of body contouring and body lift surgery, and co-pioneered multiple techniques with Drs. Hurwitz and Rubin in Pittsburgh and performed over 75 body lifts. As a result of his contributions to this young, emerging plastic surgery field, Dr. Agha was invited for five consecutive years to the annual meeting of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons to teach other plastic surgeons as an expert in the field of body contouring and plastic surgery after weight loss.
Since 2008, Dr. Agha has been developing a center dedicated to body contouring and body lift surgery in Southern California. Dr. Agha now dedicates about 50% of his practice to these complex procedures and extremely rewarding group of patients.
Dr. Siamak Agha has been at the forefront of plastic surgery after weight loss and is considered a global expert in this field. Since 2002, Dr. Agha has been performing post-bariatric plastic surgery and has operated on several thousand weight loss patients.
Experience
According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), most plastic surgeons perform 1-2 body lift procedures per year. This is known as the practice profile of the average plastic surgeon.
This is the number of procedures that a board certified plastic surgeon performs in a typical year, showing the average number of procedures a board certified plastic surgeon performs in during a typical year.
As illustrated by Dr. Agha’s practice profile below, he performs one of the highest numbers of body lift surgeries in the country, if not, the world. The data is annually gathered by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and displayed on their site.
Procedure | Average number of body procedures performed by a typical Plastic Surgeon per year | Average Number of body procedures performed by Dr. Agha per year |
---|---|---|
Upper arm lift | 2.1 | 20+ |
Tummy tuck | 19.8 | 70-75 |
Buttock Augmentation | 0.8 | 60-65 |
Buttock Lift | 0.4 | 30+ |
Liposuction | 34 | Over 100 |
Lower Body Lift | 1 | 30+ |
Thigh Lift | 1.2 | 50+ |
While most plastic surgeons perform about 40-50 body lifts in their life times, Dr. Agha has already performed over 500 body lifts in the past 15 years. This may be one of the highest numbers of body lifts performed by a single plastic surgeon globally. With his extensive training and experience in the field of plastic surgery after weight loss, Dr. Agha is a solid contributor to the innovations made in this arena. He has contributed and /or developed specific plastic surgery after weight loss procedures such as the dermal bra suspension breast lift, Spiral thigh lift, J-upper body lift, buttock augmentation-reshaping and lift, calf reduction, and his signature high-definition body lift. It is the creation of these novel procedures that has made Dr. Agha an international speaker and lectures in many meetings.
Innovations
Body lift surgeries are a series of complex plastic surgery procedures that are best undertaken by a board-certified plastic surgeon who has extensive experience in plastic surgery after weight loss or extreme body contouring. Since the demand for these types of surgeries is increasing, both American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) hold many courses and seminars to educate plastic surgeons about post-bariatric surgery. Dr. Siamak Agha has been an invited course instructor to many of these national and international meetings, teaching techniques that he developed by himself or with other plastic surgeons. These include:
- Dr. Agha’s pioneered High-definition Body Lift
- Dermal bra suspension breast lift- co-pioneered with Dr. J. Rubin
- J-Thoracoplasty – co-pioneered with Dr. Dennis Hurwitz
- Spiral thigh lift – co-pioneered with Dr. Dennis Hurwitz
- Spiral flap breast augmentation- co-pioneered with Dr. Dennis Hurwitz
- Buttocks augmentation-reshaping- Pioneered by Dr. Agha
Furthermore Dr. Agha brought to light the importance of nutritional deficiency of the bariatric patients and the impact of these nutritional deficiencies on body contouring surgery in 2008 and 2009 by publishing articles about these topics in Plastic Surgery Journals.
He further went ahead and looked at the impact of nutritional supplementation on his body lift patients and compared patient’s complication rates before and after nutritional supplementation with the national data. He then published a guideline on Enhanced Recovery after body contouring surgery for surgeons to implement on their patients(Enhanced recovery after body-contouring surgery: reducing surgical complication rates by optimizing nutrition (2010). Agha-Mohammadi S, Hurwitz DJ. Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 34(5):617-25).

Our philosophy is commitment to excellence in patient care and superior surgical results.
Published Complication Rates
Body lift surgeries are complex surgeries that involve multiple procedures being performed through one incision. Thus, they have a higher complication rate than the average plastic surgery procedure since they are more extensive. Multiple articles have been written about the higher rate of complications after body lift surgeries with as high as 80 percent of patients experiencing one or more complications. Although most of these complications are minor and mainly relate to healing, it was not till Dr. Agha’s study that a greater understanding of this was noted. Between 2008-2012, Dr. Agha showed that the higher rate of complication in weight loss patients is due to the nutritional deficiency of this patient population before surgery and nutritional supplementation before body contouring surgery can significantly reduce complication rates. In fact, Dr. Agha showed that potential complication rates can be reduced to 10-15% if the patients are nutritionally optimized before any plastic surgery for 2-3 weeks.
Comprehensive
As many of Dr. Agha’s patient testimonials and reviews elude to, Dr. Dr. Agha is super-specialized in total body transformations and has performed hundreds of each one of these procedures. As a result, his surgical plans are literally always more comprehensive and complete than your average plastic surgeon. Equipped with the knowledge of novel techniques, what he offers is a customized plan for every aspect of your body as you desire. Dr. Agha has even pioneered procedures for forearm and calf skin excision that have not yet been published in literature. This often results in more expensive surgical plans but that is because you are getting more. In fact, Dr. Agha saves you money when you look at the bigger picture.
Costs
Each surgery bears a certain cost to come to fruition. Apart from the cost of operating room, anesthesia, and surgeon’s fees, there are the other costs that most patients do not consider. These include cost of recovery, days to weeks off work, cost of childcare, cost of care giver, medications, etc. Thus, combining surgeries and completing multiple procedures in one stage will save you money. While the average plastic surgeon may complete a total body transformation in 3-5 stages, for most patients, Dr. Agha will finish a total body lift in 2 stages. So, you can recover from your surgeries twice rather than taking 3-5 times off work. This can truly save you not only $$$ but also valuable time that you can spend enjoying your new body.
Team Approach
Since 2009, Dr. Agha has devoted a significant portion of his time to developing a practice on Plastic Surgery After Weight Loss. This means acquiring talents that can cater to the bigger and more complex surgeries. Part of this equation had to start at the surgery center. Whereas in hospitals, you work with different members of the surgical teams on daily basis, Dr. Agha wanted the same people and the same set up on every surgery. With other surgeons, he built an ambulatory surgery center so that he can direct every aspect of the center and cater to his surgeries. Furthermore, for the past 10 years, he has trained every member of his team. This means that his surgical nurse, surgical tech, physician assistant, and anesthesiologist have done hundreds of body lifts with him and each member knows the high standard that is expected from them. Together they work efficiently to complete each patient’s surgery safely and meticulously.
