This 47-year-old patient presented to Dr. Siamak Agha for a Tummy Tuck procedure. The patient underwent Dr. Agha’s signature tummy tuck; the purpose of her tummy tuck procedure was to remove her excess flank laxity as well as liposuction of her abdomen, back, and love-handles. The goal of a tummy tuck procedure is to remove excess abdominal skin and fat from the abdomen and to tighten the underlying muscles of the abdominal wall. Weight gain can stretch and separate the two main muscles in the abdomen that are responsible for the tight and toned looking abdomen. The skin on the abdomen can sometimes be stretched beyond its ability. This results in a breakage of the deeper layer of skin. Often times after significant weight loss, the skin is stretched so far that it cannot retract back to its original laxity. This results in extra skin and fatty tissue sagging due to the abdominal wall being stretched.
