New “Gummy Bear” Implants
Finally, after 7 years, and a study that included almost 1,000 women, the Food and Drug Administration has approved the 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Gel Filled Breast Implant approved for adults ages 22 years and older, and for post cancer breast reconstructive surgery.
The 410 implant, nicknamed the “Gummy Bear” implant by plastic surgeons due to the feel and consistency while outside of the body, is the latest advancement of silicone implants that provide a more natural “tear-drop” look compared to other options. The 410 implants are considered a firm option due to cross-linking in the silicone gel.
Although there are pros and cons to any implant, the 410 implants have been available for years in other countries. Women like the more natural result of the 410 implants and that they are less prone to developing wrinkles and visible edges. However, for some, the downside is added firmness.
The 410 implant is not necessarily a better product than other implants, they are merely a new option, with a more natural texture and appearance. Like other implants, the new 410 implants will not last a lifetime and will require future surgery. The most important thing, in any surgery, is to be treated by a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Siamak Agha of Plastic Surgery Body Contouring Center is one of the few plastic surgeons who now offers the “Gummy Bear” implant.
